502 _aThesis (BA Communication Arts) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, May 2016
520 3 _aHis production-led thesis explored the concept of edutainment in communicating solid waste management to the residents of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. With the aim of providing for the lack of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) strategies and materials to promote good SWM practices among waste sources in the municipality, the researcher created an innovative IEC material in the form of an educational board game. The researcher conducted key informant interviews and surveys with the residents of Brgy. Poblacion, Lake Sebu, south Cotabato to find out their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding solid waste management. Results showed that residents have above average knowledge and that there are several important information on solid waste management that are unfamiliar to them. The residents? attitudes and practices were also mostly positive but results showed that they are still vulnerable regarding the practice of burning wastes throwing wastes over lakes and rivers. In conceptualizing the game, the researcher incorporated the results with the concepts of Experiential Learning Theory, and Message Learning Theory of Persuasion. The researcher used the theory of Visual Rhetoric in designing the parts of the game. Following the play-centric approach, the researcher also play tested the game with its target audience in order to guide the revisions of the game.
