520 _aThis study investigated the effect of light intensity on survival rate and shoot formation of V. sanderiana using leaf bases. The explants were grown under two different light regimes: 1.072 x 10-18mol m-2s-1 and 1.787 x 10-18mol m-2s-1 in a completely randomized experiment with ten replicates for each treatment. Result showed that the explants under two light regimes had different numbers of shoot formed. Explants under 1.787 x 10-18mol m-2s-1 formed greater number of shoots compared to 1.072 x 10-18mol m-2s-1. The size of the shoots formed was visually rated. The size of the shoots in 1.787 x 10-18mol m-2s-1 light condition was greater and more prominent (approximately 0.5-1.0 cm) compared to 1.072 x 10-18mol m-2s-1 (approximately 0.2-0.4 cm). However, when the data were analyzed statistically, there was no significant difference in their survival rates
