520 _aThe microwell cytotoxicity assay of madre de cacao gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Steud extract using brine shrimp, artemia salina L. was done to determine its cytotoxic properties. According the Herath et al. (1998). G. sepium has natural cancer ? protective compound in the form of isoflavonoid, especially called afrormosin. As isoflavonoids contain OH attached to benzene ring their structures, they are considered as derivatives of phenols. Various plant parts (seeds, leaves and branches) were extracted through decoction and were indirectly tested for the presence of phenols. The seed extract tested positive to the phenol test and was used in the cytotoxicity test. Concentrations of 1 ppt and 100 ppt were prepared and placed in the wells of the 96-well microwell plate containing 100 L A. salina nauplii suspension. Mortality rate was determined after 24 hours. Twenty-four (24) hour LC50 of madre de cacao seed extract was found to be 8.6 ppt
