Thesis, Undergraduate (BA Communication Arts) -- U. P. in Mindanao
The designer created a campaign that aimed to promote the idea of voting wisely. The platform that supported the campaign was an anonymous Facebook account under name of Vote Sakto. Three sets of badges, each containing eight, ten and eight badges were published in the said account. The primary target audience of the campaign is active internet users as well as first voters aged 18-24 years old. The badges contained messages designed t make the readers think and rethink their voting decisions. This was done by putting together the text containing the message and an image supporting it. The badges were released by set, on January 24, February 28, and March 8 respectively. This production thesis was done because of the need to create easily accessible visual reminders about voting wisely, as the national election date is nearing. The designer is aware of many bigger companies supporting the same cause. Because of that, this production does not aim to compete but rather to boost the said advocacy. Aside from that, the designer also wanted to analyze the published badges and find out what factors are needed in order for something to be viral. In the post-production part of the thesis, the designer measured how many reactions each badge has gotten and through that, the designer determined what makes something viral online. Typography was the main element used in the production and concepts under typography mostly governed the analysis. Results revealed that in order for the badges to spread among the target readers, the badges should be visually attractive through the use youthful and useful imagery, and should have a straightforward message that makes them think.
