Urban areas are booming in economic development due to the emergence of different access points in local and international economic trade. But it results to overcrowding in the urban areas as more work opportunities are introduced and privatization of land areas as the development progressed, which led to the displacement of the present communities that shape the area locally. The displacement of the communities is one of the common issues among informal settlers and therefore it is essential to provide solution for the hazards and challenges of the city, either natural or man – made hazards. The study aims to create housing and community development based on Preference for housing and the Sense of Place of coastal communities. Four different coastal community locations are considered in the scope of the study. In these four locations, physical and socio – demographic profiling, interview, and survey questionnaires are used to determine and evaluate the housing conditions, the Sense of Place, and the preferences of each household of coastal communities considered in the study. The researcher evaluated the sense of place and the preferences of each household as a guide for the design of the housing and community development for the coastal communities that adapt and provide to their need to address the issues on current housing demands. The research has determined the factors essential for the selection of relocation site for resettlement development among coastal communities and the effect of Sense of Place to the preferences of the residents for housing and community development. The coastal communities in the urban areas cannot be relocated without an access to their work or livelihood. Thus, zoning allocation for coastal resettlement area is essential to cater the needs of the residents that have settled for the development of coastal housing and community.
