The use of colors is generally dictated by the cultures lifestyle and behaviors. Research have found out that true to the color semiotic analysis, the dominant colors used by the cultures demonstrate their characters in dealing with the society. The use of signs and symbols are really important in meaning-making. In cultural semiotic, the uses of these signs basically lead to the cultural understanding of themselves as well as the community. This study embraces the cultural approach to generate a color guide based on the cultural color symbolisms in relation to the existing chromatic character of the indigenous arts and architecture among the different ethnolinguistic groups in Mindanao. The researcher examined dominant color characters of physical context defined by the architecture and indigenous art of the five ethnolinguistic groups in Mindanao namely the Aeta, Bagobo, Manobo. Matigsalug, and Obu. Moreover, the cultural symbolisms of the existing color palettes according to color terminologies, color meaning associations and color perception were also explored in the study. Using the protocol developed by Nguyen and Teller a detailed and comprehensive data on chromatic characteristics of the arts and architecture were obtained and presented. The assessment of these color characteristics have shown that majority of the object samples have colors with hues that are concentrated within the Red Yellow hue region. The results have also shown that for most of the color samples, chromatic characteristics of these individuals are concentrated in the darker and less saturated part of the SL color space.
