Summary, etc. | Growth responses of three bacteria namely, Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp. and Bacillus cereus, to Whatman No. 1 filter paper disks soaked in the culture filtrate of entomogenous fungi grown in Czapek Dox liquid medium for 14 days without shaking were observed. A total of seventeen filtrates were tested for each bacterial species. Two fungal culture filtrates from isolates ER-FI-3 and ER-FI-8, both verified as Aspergillus sp., exhibited inhibitory activity towards Bacillus cereus. Antibacterial activity was detected by the presence of zone of clearing around the disk. Inhibition zone reached an average diameter of 14 mm for ER-FI-3 and 16 mm for ER-FI-8 making B. cereus highly susceptible. This result indicates the presence of antibacterial substance in the filtrates of the two fungal isolates belonging to genus Aspergillus |
