Summary, etc. | Intensive surveys of the amphibian faunas of Malagos watershed Baguio district, Davao City were conducted from September 2000 to March 2001. A total of nine different species belonging to five families in eight genera were found. Three possible species were not identified. Among the orchard/agricultural and forest area, the forest area had the highest diversity of the amphibian faunas. Several microhabitats including forest floor litter and bodies of water were also sampled. Among the reasons for the forest high diversity includes its high moisture content and the diversity of microhabitats. The amphibians? mode of life was also observed and presented. Two species, namely, Limnonectes magnus and Bufo marinus were found to have economic importance to the people in the study area. The species Bufo marinus was also observed to be invading all terrestrial habitats of the study area. However, it is not known if this invasion would result to the declination of population of several endemic species found in the site. More surveys are needed in order to fully account to the overall diversity and know the situation of these faunas inside the study area |
