Root pathogenic fungi of sago palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) / Phoebe S. Nemenzo - 2004 - 32 leaves

Thesis (BS Biology) -- University of the Philippines Mindanao, 2004

Four fungal isolates were obtained and designated MS-AS-1, MS-AS-2, MS-AS-3 and MS-AS-4 by performing the tissue planting technique on sago palm roots exhibiting rot. Pathogenicity test revealed that the four fungal isolates were pathogenic since the roots of the sago host plant seedlings infected with spore suspension exhibited discoloration of tissues, rotting, root surface and systematic lesioning, necrosis and eventual complete seedling death. By performing again the tissue planning technique, the four fungi were re-isolated from the infected tissue, further confirming their pathogenicity. The identity of the isolates was determined as follows: MS-AS-1 as Aspergillus sp., MA-As-2 as Hyalodendron sp., and MS-AS-3 as Penicilium sp. while further characterization must be done to establish the identity of MS-AS-4. This is the first record of root pathogenic fungi in sago palms found in the Agusan province in Mindanao
